Past Pupil Career Talks

We are always delighted as a school to have our past pupils back and it was great to see both Caoimhe Harris and Avril Mc Namee return to Finn Valley College recently to impart some of the knowledge they have gained in their chosen career areas since leaving secondary school.

Caoimhe kindly agreed to speak to a number of our Leaving Certificate students about her journey in education after progressing through a HND in Health and Social Care at NWRC and later completing her Level 8 Degree in Health Science and Physiology at IT Sligo gaining a 1st Class Honours.

Caoimhe talked to the students about her experience in both NWRC and IT Sligo and about the different progression options into health care courses. She also talked to them in depth of the projects that she was involved with in health promotion.

Avril Mc Namee, fresh from her outstanding success in becoming US Open Handball champion, then came into school to talk to Leaving Certificate students interested in sports as well as our Sports PLC students. Avril’s pathway through education saw her gain a Level 8 Degree in Sports Coaching and Business at LYIT, also gaining a 1st Class Honours.

Avril spoke warmly of her time in Finn Valley College and of the importance of working hard and creating good impressions while creating your network of people. She is currently working with Tommy Gallagher Injury Management.

On behalf of the students attending the talks and the Guidance Department in the school, we wish to thank both ladies for giving up their time and passing on their knowledge and we wish them all the best in their future careers.
