Transition Year .

Finn Valley College was delighted to add Transition Year to its suite of options for our pupils in 2022. Launched by Mrs McGeehan in May 2022 and co-ordinated by Ms Garry, our TY group has consisted of sixteen pupils in its first year.

Transition Year is an optional one year school-based programme that occurs between Junior and Senior Cycle.

It serves as a bridge between the two cycles by enabling a smoother transition from the dependent learning of the Junior Cycle to the independent, self-directed learning required for the Senior Cycle.  Rather than focus solely on exams, pupils have the opportunity to study traditional core subjects alongside collaborative projects, developing leadership skills and gaining work experience in the community free from the pressures of formal exams.

Our prospective TY pupils are surveyed at the end of their third year to gauge their interest in various subject areas and the programme is tailored to suit the interests and requirements of each new TY group, where possible.  A certificate of completion is awarded to each pupil who meets the requirements of the course which includes a reflective e-Portfolio, engagement with the course, attendance and participation.
