World Home Economics Day 2022

2022: Building resilient homes & families

Homes are the most important haven & asset in peoples’ lives. More and more, global developments such as climate change, pandemic and war affect the wellbeing of household members. This year’s World Home Economics Day (WHED) focus is on our profession’s contribution to make homes safer and more resilient.

In FVC, the HE Department this week are planning lessons to equip students about being resilient though positive decision making and making our homes more sustainable.

In school today, we had a pop up information stand, where students could access information about how to be sustainable at home and at school by recycling and refilling their water bottles. The senior students prepared healthy snacks highlighting the importance of making better food choices. There was also a display about how we can be more sustainable in our lives by recycling food waste, buying Irish and buying local.

Students were asked to complete a short survey to ascertain their knowledge of Sustainability and what choices they are making in their lives.

The 1st year HE students displayed their bunting which they made by upcycling old fabrics to make a creative design that will look fab in the HE room and really decorated the display today.

Well done all who participated in todays event to mark this important theme and day. Teamwork really makes a difference. @athe_homeec
