Art Students success in Jigsaw Exhibition

The following four Finn Valley College students’ work will be proudly showcased with all the wonderful entries created for this year’s JIGSAW ART competition, in An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny. This year’s theme was ‘GROWTH’. Ms Molloy would like to praise all four students for taking the time, engaging in the process & entering this competition. It is an incredible experience for the students to have their artwork on display as part of a group exhibition. She would like to thank Ms Quigley for the valuable support & encouragement that she gave the students.

Ciaran McLoone , Mind Your Melon Representative spoke about the collaborative initiative run by  Jigsaw Donegal’s Art Competition 2023 (supported by Mind your Melon) The aim of the competition is to promote the message of positive mental health through art.

He highlights the positive effects of being mindful & being present when creating art & how this can benefit your mental health. 

Amy Mc Rory Youth & Community Engagement Worker, JIGSAW Donegal  praised all the students/ young artists on the artwork they entered and stated that Donegal has a bright future with such creative young people.  

The Art Exhibition will be open to the whole public from Monday 15th January until Monday 5th February at An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny. 

“I found the theme growth to be very interesting as it can mean physically getting bigger or growing as a person.

I started with a lily in a pond with acrylic paint, however along the way I lost the passion to continue the piece as I didn’t find it interesting. 

I then went to watercolours and drew a phoenix as I thought the phoenix symbolises growth the best, which I also stopped doing after finding it to be too messy.

I resorted to paint over the lily and drew a phoenix in acrylic which I found to be more saturated and pleasing to look at.

This was an eventful journey and I hope to have another one again soon.
