Business in the Community (BITC) – Skills at Work Programme
Every year a group from our fourth year students are selected to take part in the Business in the Community- Skills at Work Programme. This year the Synge class were selected. Under the support and organisation of Ms Clarke, students have the wonderful opportunity to gain valuable experience in relation to their future careers. This year, the school has linked with the renowned company that is SITA. Around the world, nearly every passenger flight relies on SITA technology.
The programme involves 5 steps:
Introduction Session – the students are introduced to the programme and get an opportunity to engage with the Coordinator of BITC Pamela Kearney.
Team Building Session – the students get to meet representatives from our partner company SITA, they carry out a task in teams, they gain skills in communication, organisation and Nd time management.
Site Visit – The students visit SITA in Letterkenny, they get to see what the company does and try out some of the innovative technologies. They get to interview employees and find out about the career route they chose.
C.V. and Interview Session – This takes place in the school and is hosted by Louise Magee (HR Manager for SITA Ireland). Louise gives the students invaluable information on C.V content and the do’s and don’ts in an interview setting. The students then complete a C.V.
Mock Interview – the students travel to the SITA offices, Letterkenny, where they complete a panel interview. The students are given individual feedback on their strengths and areas to be further developed.
