FVC Gaisce Students Support Daffodil Day
The school was a flood of yellow today to support Daffodil Day. Well done to our Gaisce students who were guided by Ms Treanor and Ms Collum as they raised €1,234.08 for such a wonderful cause.
Pictured below is Ena Barrett from the Irish Cancer Society receiving the cheque from members of the organising committee. Special thanks to everyone who contributed and made generous donations for such a worthy cause.
Many thanks to the students, staff, parents and the wider community for their donations, baking and kindness to supporting the event and making it such a memorable and poignant day.
Families were invited into the school for a coffee morning and students provided a lovely display of food for staff to enjoy at breaktime. There was great excitement to find out who won the wonderful prizes. Congratulations to Ms Duffy and Ms Garry on their success in the hamper.
Parents and students also participated in the well-being walk. Ms Mc Geehan (HSCL) also circulated the HELLO Initiative promoted by Mental Health Ireland. Such a lovely idea to remind us all to take time out to have conversations with people and check in with how they are doing.
The Irish Cancer Society will use Daffodil Day to fund its vital free services such as drives to and from cancer treatment, the Freephone Support Line and Daffodil Centres staffed by experienced cancer nurses, the Night Nursing service providing end of life care and counselling for anyone affected by cancer.
Donations such as those raised by the group will also provide funding for state-of-the-art cancer research and life-saving cancer trials.
