Semi-Final spot beckons for Senior Boys
The Senior boys team are just one game away from an Ulster final after an impressive 6-1 victory over Mulroy College.
The senior boys soccer team have advanced to the semi-final stage of the Ulster ‘B’ cup after a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Mulroy College at a rain soaked Finn Valley Centre on Thursday last. A hat-trick from Aaron Kelly, two from Matthew O Rourke and one from Tiarnan Mc Connell sees the lads through to the next stage where they will play one of the representatives from the Cavan/Monaghan section.
Aaron Kelly opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a fine finish from the edge of the box and Matthew O Rourke added a second ten minutes later. Mulroy were giving a spirited performance and can count themselves unlucky not to have reduced the deficit before the break as they had plenty of the ball and kept the Finn Valley rearguard honest with plenty of good play.
The first goal of the second half was always going to be crucial and it arrived courtesy of Kelly. FVC, now 3-0 up, never looked likely to concede such an advantage and proceeded to add to their tally, firstly through O Rourke with his second and then through Tiarnan Mc Connell. Mulroy did manage a consolation goal that their performance merited before Kelly completed his hat-trick in the dying moments.
It is hoped that a venue for training can be secured over the coming while in order to prepare for the next game when the lads will be one step away from an Ulster Final.
