Gaisce Trip to Carrickfinn by Eimear Ewing
Hi, I’m Eimear and I am a 5th Year Student at FVC. Below is a snapshot of my involvement in Gaisce to date.
What’s it all about?
I am currently working on my Bronze Award and will be starting my Silver Award after Christmas. Being part of the Gaisce Programme gives me a chance to improve my confidence, develop new talents and make friends by developing my social skills. I am really enjoying the experience and I am participating in the school concert at present which is great fun. To achieve my award I must challenge myself to become more active, get involved in the community and develop a personal skill – the more time I put in, the greater the reward.
Making fun memories
On the 5th of October, Ms Collum and Ms Treanor took us to Carrickfinn as part of a team building and physical activity challenge.
We completed a lovely 10k walk up the cliffs and around the beach. Ms Treanor also took her dog (he is adorable). We took some lovely photos of the water and the rocks. Ms Treanor provided us with a lovely lunch, which was well needed after an active morning.
Once we got ready we went down to the beach and met our two tutors who were teaching us how to surf. We went over safety rules and how to get up on the surf board and then we went into the water. We had such a fun time surfing. I was able to stand up on the board and surprisingly I was pretty good. It was really enjoyable but, after I got out of the water I was freezing. We were unfortunate with the weather, but it didn’t spoil our day.
We were delighted to get on the bus and a stop at the shop on the way home was a real treat.
It was a great activity and I’m looking forward to our next challenge, creating memories and learning new skills along the way. Thanks to all the group – a great bunch of girls and of course to our teachers who organised everything wonderfully.
I’ll keep you posted on our progress, bye for now,
Eimear
