Thematic choice, or TO since it is referred to on campus, is really a program that replaces USC’s General Education curriculum having an interdisciplinary core curriculum. This program is probably not for you if you don’t LOVE reading and writing. Like FSH, TO provides students having a smaller learning environment which enables greater interaction amongst pupils and faculty.
Aaron Brown, Associate Director of Admission, participated in TO when he had been a student at USC. Aaron says that TO ‘became a great way to shrink this big institution to a more manageable size’ and states it provided him with a great community of like-minded pupils. Aaron says his favorite TO course ended up being Core 102 that he took his first semester of college themed ‘The Hero’s Journey.’ He says one instance that stands apart is whenever class invested an entire period discussing just two paragraphs of Heart of Darkness. Aaron claims it absolutely was a ‘wow, this is college’ moment for him. We now have spent the last few months reading thousands of files, we are very excited to meet all of you so we are primed for some student interaction and! While we’m sure that there will be happening that is plenty campus, I wanted to highlight some things about this breathtaking city that I love. I have already been surviving in la for the last 9 years and you may still find things I have not done, but it is a personal ‘Must See’ list that I’ve compiled for LA visitors. I hope you enjoy!
1) Let’s Take A Ride: For my commute that is everyday just take the Metro Expo Line working. Since its opening in Spring 2012, USC students are able to simply take this train to Culver City in West LA or to Downtown. You are invited by me to accomplish the same! Culver City is really a place that is great restaurants, museums and theaters. If you ride the Expo Line heading in the opposing way, it’s possible to take pleasure from LA Live- house of the Nokia Theatre, the GRAMMY museum and several more restaurants. Right door that is next The Staples Center, where the Lakers play ( plus some other NBA group that no one caresabout). I choose less beaches that are crowded Playa or Santa Monica, but whatever you might be into the mood for, you can’t visit Los Angeles without hitting the waves!
3) hear this!: my own thing that is favorite LA is the amount and variety of live music you can expose you to ultimately. We love going to big concerts at my venue that is favorite Greek Theatre, to watch musicians like Jason Mraz or Phoenix. If I do want to choose one thing more intimate, I am able to constantly check out up and coming singer/songwriters at places like area 5 or The Witzend.
4) An Elevated Rested Place: we had beenn’t going to include restaurants in this post, but this is a new favorite, so I had to make an exception. Perch restaurant is a french bistro that is inspired in one’s heart of downtown Los Angeles. It bears its name mostly because it sits on a rooftop and offers you an unobstructed 360 degree view for the city. I highly suggest using your family here for Sunday brunch with some live music
5) A Lesson in History: Olvera Street may be the part that is oldest of this town. Just take the Expo Line from campus and then the line that is connecting Union facility. In about half an hour, you certainly will find yourself surrounded by historic buildings and a traditional Mexican style plaza with plenty of places to consume and shop. Spend a few hours appreciating the beauty that is architectural learning about its traditions.
