Wynn Resorts Receives Environmental Approval for Boston Harbor Project

Steve Wynn’s Wynn Resorts is beset by legal challenges but it still hopes to break ground on the Wynn Boston Harbor project this summer.

Wynn Resorts’ legal battle to get its $2.1 billion project in Everett, near Boston, off the ground received a boost on Friday if the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommended the company for a waterfront development permit.

The Everett project, which will be known as the Wynn Boston Harbor, was beset by appropriate challenges at every turn, despite having been awarded state video gaming license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in late 2014.

Wynn has been sued by the City of Boston, plus the City of Somerville, across the water from the chemical that is former on which project are going to be built. ‘We read state law to prohibit only betting upon games decided at least predominantly by chance,’ had written Morrisey in his opinion. But DFS, he said ‘are determined predominantly by skill, knowledge, and athletic performance.’

A matter for the legislature whether West Virginia will now move to regulate and tax the DFS industry, as its neighbor Virginia became the first US state to do at the beginning of the year, is of course.

Delaware Pulls the Plug

In stark contrast, Delaware pulled the plug on DFS a week ago, with its AG, Matthew Denn, ruling, perhaps more controversially, that the contests were essentially games of chance.

‘Relying in the Delaware Constitution, as well as State and Federal case legislation, DOJ attorneys determined that online fantasy contests that involve payment for playing and Continue reading “West Virginia Rules DFS Game of Ability; No it’s Maybe Not, Says Delaware”
