2nd Year trip to Rep. of Ireland v Estonia

The second year groups Binchy, Beckett and Boland were in fine voice on Tuesday last as they helped support the ‘Boys in Green’ against Estonia in the Aviva stadium.

On Tuesday morning last, 51 students accompanied by Mr Mc Daid, Mr White, Mr Mc Dermott, Ms Mc Granaghan and Ms Trisha Redmond made their way up to Dublin for the annual 2nd year outing to an Ireland game. Many of the students managed to get on the trip for free after selling two full cards in Mr Mc Daid’s Guess the Score competition. This year’s trip was extra special as the game was effectively a celebration for the Irish squad having qualified for the Euro 2012 championships that are due to take place in Poland and Ukraine next summer.

First stop for the group was the Blandchardstown Shopping Centre for a bit of retail therapy and a chance to snap up some bargains for Christmas. After several hours shopping, Charlie our driver steered us towards the impressive Aviva stadium. On the way the excitement for the game was building and the annual Guess the first Goalscorer sweep was conducted. The coach pulled up outside the D4 group of hotels and scarves/flags and all-sorts were purchased from noisy street vendors.

The game itself went according to plan for the Irish team with a 1-1 draw enough to rubber-stamp qualification. Throughout the game the atmosphere was celebratory, with many a song and ‘Mexican wave’ being heartily participated in by the FVC group. Back on the coach for the long journey home and the distribution of winnings to Mr Mc Dermot and Ryan Lindsay for guessing closest to the correct time that Stephen Ward scored the opening goal.

Acknowledgement is due to all the students whose behaviour on the day was excellent.
