What is Learning for Living?

This program addresses the educational needs of adults whose skills range from minimal or no literacy skills to those who wish to improve their basic skills and also avail of the opportunity to work towards accreditation at FETAC (NCVA) Foundation level or Junior Certificate.

Who can take part in Learning for Living programmes?

Adults who:

  • have no reading, writing/numeracy skills
  • wish to improve reading, writing, numeracy and oral skills
  • need help with grammar and spelling
  • need help with numeracy
  • need to improve their skills to help children with homework
  • wish to learn basic computer skills
  • wish to learn or improve their English
  • get a qualification at FETAC Levels 1, 2 and 3 (Foundation level NCVA) and Junior Certificate

What courses are available in Learning for Living?

  • Intensive tuition offering English, Maths and Computers at FETAC Levels 1, 2 and 3.
  • Junior Certificate English and Maths
  • English and Communications at FETAC Levels 1, 2 and 3
  • Maths at FETAC Levels 1, 2 and 3
  • English language classes
  • Family Learning courses for parents of:
  • Maths for parents of primary school children
  • Help your child with English and Irish grammar
  • Help your child with first year maths
  • Familiarise parents with Junior Certificate English
  • Familiarise parents with Junior Certificate Irish
  • Computers for parents

What will a Learning for Living course cost?

  • All courses offered under the Learning for Living programme are free

Will I be paid while attending a Learning for Living course?

  • The Learning for Living programme supports participants by providing assistance with childcare, eldercare, books and materials, as well as some assistance towards transport costs.  There is no  direct payment for attending.  Social Welfare provides support for participants on some of our more intensive programmes.
