Coláiste Phobail Cholmcille

In 1999, the Tory Island’s co-operative Comharchumann Oileann Thoraí ‘invited members of Meithal Forbartha Na Gaelthachta and Donegal VEC to the island to make their case for secondary education on the island. At that time there were twenty-eight pupils in the national school and the need for secondary education became critical.  The meeting resulted in the founding of Colaíste Phobail Cholmcille with facilities being provided in the local community centre.

On 10th January 2005, Ms Mary Hanafin, T.D., Minister for Education announced  her approval for the provision of Second Level Educational Facilities for the Community of Oiléan Thóraí by means of Devolved Grant.  Contracts were signed on the 9th May 2005, less than a year later, staff and pupils moved into the new facilities on 21st February 2006 and was officially opened by Minister Hanafin, T.D. on the 5th May 2006.
