In September 1982 the county’s second (and the VEC’s first) all-Irish school opened in Ballinamore (operating out of the premises of the local Irish College, Cholaiste Chu Uladh) in the central Gaeltacht area stretching from Glenfin to Doochary and Glenties. As numbers began to grow, a proper school building was required and this opened in 1984.
On the 20th September 2006, the Minister for Education and Science announced the approval for the refurbishment and substantial extension (1,219m2) for the school at an approx. value of €2.4m. The contractor acquired possession on the 9th November 2006 with practical completion scheduled for 15 months. The refurbished School and extension was officially opened on the 16th May 2008 by Ms. Mary Coughlan, T.D., Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
