Community Education Programme.
The community education programme supports the development of Community Education across the county. This it does through the role of the Community Education Facilitator (CEF).
Community & voluntary groups wishing to establish and deliver educational programmes in their own locality may contact the Community Education Facilitator.
What is community Education?
Community education is a process of empowerment rooted in the community . “ a process of communal education towards empowerment, both at an individual level and a collective level” (White paper 2000).
A key characteristic of the Community Education model is holding the lived experience of the participants as the starting point. (Kavanagh 2007)
Who can take part in Community Education programmes?
Co Donegal VEC Community Education service works in partnership with Community groups and organisations to run a huge variety of courses .Examples include Art, ICT, Drama, Sign language, Crafts to name but a few.
The service is available to the groups through the provision of grants and not through the provision of tuition hours. See downloads and contact details below.
Accreditation is promoted but not mandatory
The ethos of the programme is one of engaging with educationally disadvantaged adults and has a social inclusion focus.
What will a Community Education course cost?
The Community Education Support Programme gives a contribution to the organising group towards tuition costs . Other costs pertaining to the class to be borne by the group and/ or class participants. These costs may include insurance, room rental, course materials etc.
